The Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra established its Music Academy with the mission ‘Helping the song in every young heart bring a smile’ and the objective to initiate training for the community’s young, so that music becomes part of the student’s life before the multitude of diversions distract.
Summer 2015 Music Academy: June 30 / July 7 / July 14 / July 21
The Music Academy prepares string students to participate in their local school orchestras and for audition to the Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The Academy provides string instrument instruction to children ages 7-16 in violin, viola, bass and cello for beginning through advanced students for 15-week sessions. The first instruction was classes in the Summer 2005 Violin Camp. 8-week sessions are scheduled in the summer, fall, winter and spring.
Classes are held in the Larsen Fine Arts Center on the Olivet Nazarene University campus in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Music Academy tuition is $310.00 per 15-week session (payment options available). This includes weekly 30-minute lessons with one of the Academy’s highly trained instructors. These experienced teachers share their musical knowledge with their students through a variety of comprehensive instructional methods.
Academy students are responsible for providing their own instrument, which they will need for the first lesson. Music stores in the Kankakee Valley area offer several financial options for instrument purchase or rental by KVYSO Music Academy students.
The Academy teacher will provide information for selection of books required for instruction.
There are funds available for tuition payment aid, based on financial need.
